The National Network
MCCCIL is part of a nationwide Marine Corps support system — coordinated through the National Marine Corps Council.
National Marine Corps Council (NMCC)
The National Marine Corps Council exists to provide Marine Corps Veteran Service Organizations and affiliates with information of interest and to serve as a forum for the Commandant of the Marine Corps. It creates a non-political environment for representatives from Marine Corps VSOs to share pertinent information and functions as a platform for the Commandant to communicate with the broader veteran community.
MCCCIL is a full member of the NMCC, operating as a subchapter alongside coordinating councils in Georgia, Kentucky, Texas, New York, Indiana, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and other states. Membership in the NMCC is free — the only requirement is a commitment to continue serving Country, Corps, and fellow Marines.
MCCCs and the Marine Corps League
The Marine Corps League — founded in 1923 and congressionally chartered in 1937 — is the oldest Marine Corps veteran organization in the United States. It operates through 48 state departments and over 1,000 community-based detachments, including 40+ detachments across Illinois.
In short: The Marine Corps League is a member-based fraternal organization for individual Marines. Coordinating Councils are coordination bodies for Marine Corps organizations within a geographic area — casting a wider net that includes MCL detachments, active duty units, recruiting stations, state agencies, and other veteran service organizations.
